Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputies say they are looking for a woman who jumped into a pond on Tuesday afternoon to escape capture after they say she was caught shoplifting at the Burlington Coat Factory at the University Square Mall.

Detectives say store employees detained a woman they say was shop lifting in the store.

Investigators say as the woman was being escorted to the back of the store when she quickly turned and ran out of the store and through a parking lot on the north side of the store.

Deputies say the employees followed her and saw her run into a pond, wading in chest deep water, until they lost sight of her. They could not tell if she was able to get out of the pond or not.

HCSO divers searched the pond and the HCSO Aviation Unit searched from the air.

HCSO spokesman Larry Mckinnon said after an extensive effort the search was called off on Tuesday evening.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
