New email service for family, friends of Pasco inmates

Posted: Updated:
PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco has implemented a new email service for family members and friends of inmates incarcerated in the Land O' Lakes Detention Center.

The service, called SmartJailMail, is now accepting applications for citizens who wish to set up accounts.  The service will be paid for by the family members and friends of inmates who utilize the program.

A total of 77 kiosks are being set up in the detention center's housing units, which will allow the inmates to read and send email to those persons who have approved accounts. Only email and photos sent through the SmartJailMail accounts will be permitted.  While inmates can receive email and photos, they will only be able to send email, not photos.

There is no cost for citizens to set up an account.  Each email will cost 50 cents; each photo will cost $1.  Family members and friends can place funds into an inmate's account so they have the credits to both send email and receive email and photos.

The emails and photos will be monitored by Pasco detention deputies, just like the outgoing phone calls made by inmates are currently monitored.  Failure to follow email and photo guidelines will result in the cancellation of the account.

A sudden lurch in a creeping landslide in the northwest Wyoming resort town of Jackson split a house in two and forced workers to abandon efforts to stabilize the hillside.
No one can say precisely when the mountainside collapsing into this Wyoming resort town will give way. But it appears increasingly likely that when it does, it's going to take a piece of Jackson with it.
