HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Warm temperatures are great for marketing to potential tourists up north and in the Midwest. The tourism agency for Pinellas County, Visit St.Pete/Clearwater, is making the most of our unseasonable 80+ degrees on social media.

"While it may not translate directly to more visitors for this month, it certainly solidifies the brand and gets visitors thinking when we hit them with our campaign in January," said David Downing, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater.

All week the agency has been tweeting photos of warm sunsets, and posting pictures on Facebook of Florida's 80 degree temperatures at events around the Bay Area.

One response said "High of 22 in Oklahoma with a wind chill of 11!! Clearwater is as beautiful as ever."

Also, USA Today's weekend edition featured two local beaches in the Florida Beach Smackdown. Fort DeSoto Beach won for best family beach and Anclote Key won for 'Hidden Gem'.

Downing said all of the images help reinforce where people want to go to escape the cold weather.
