LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) - Lakeland Fire investigators are looking for a woman and a young boy, who is described as a person of interest in two small fires that were set at a north Lakeland Walmart Monday afternoon.

The boy was seen unsupervised in the toy department. The fires occurred shortly after the child left the area, according to investigators.

Firefighters got the call around 5:15 p.m. at the Walmart located at 5800 Highway 98 North. The two small fires were set in the front and the back areas of the store causing an estimated $500 damage. Store employees fought the fires using portable fire extinguishers. Lakeland firefighters evacuated shoppers from the area and put out the fires. The blazes were extinguished by 5:36 p.m. Lakeland Fire Department responded with six vehicles and 15 firefighters.

Store surveillance cameras recorded an image of a red or burgundy minivan that was seen in the Walmart parking lot. The woman and boy are thought to have been in the van. If you have information that can help detectives, call Lakeland Fire Investigator John McGrath at (863) 205-6694.

The 24-hour store is open, however areas impacted by the blaze will be closed to shoppers. A Walmart spokesperson wants shoppers to know the store apologizes for the inconvenience.
