TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

More than 1,000 residents in a Tampa's East Lake neighborhood say they're afraid to drink their water, and they're charged more than double what residents in other parts of the county pay for water.

Residents in this neighborhood near Tampa's Hard Rock Casino are stuck with Pluris American Infrastructure. They're upset because they often deal with cloudy water with chunks floating in it. They say the water system needs major upgrades and Pluris isn't delivering.

Pluris did not return calls for comment. The company will have to answer for this on Wednesday when the Hillsborough County Commission votes on whether or not to renew the Pluris' contract.

"My birds are drinking this, my kids are drinking this," said water customer Ellen Dooley. "Some people get a drink first thing in the morning. They brush their teeth in this."

Hillsborough County Commissioners have a big decision to make. They'll vote on Pluris contract at the commission meeting on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Residents want the county to buy out Pluris and improve their water quality. County officials say Pluris doesn't want to sell.
