Manatee deputies seek man who fired rifle at wife

PALMETTO, FL (WFLA) -

Authorities in Manatee County are searching for a Palmetto man who fired a rifle at his estranged wife Sunday morning after he threatened to kill her.

William O’Neill fled the scene before deputies arrived just after 9 a.m.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report the incident occurred at a residence in the 100 block of 58th St. East. Investigators say the suspect arrived at the home intoxicated.

O’Neill got into an argument with the resident – estranged wife Carolyn O’Neill – who had also been drinking the report states. Ms. O’Neill sat on a loveseat in the living room when the suspect exited through a sliding glass door onto the patio.

At that point Mr. O’Neill stated ‘I’m going to kill you.’ While on the patio he grabbed a long rifle and fired it in the direction of Ms. O’Neill. The suspect was standing between five and seven feet from the victim when he fired, sending the round into the wall behind her.

Mr. O’Neill then fled the home as the victim called for help. The suspect stands 5’11’’ tall, weighs about 220 pounds and has gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen driving a 2010 red Ford F150 pick-up truck.

Several MCSO units responded to the scene but were unable to locate Mr. O’Neill who is now being sought on aggravated assault with a firearm charges. If you have any information on the suspect’s whereabouts please contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011.
