A school district in Maine has a lot to be thankful for this holiday week, thanks to a new millionaire from the Tampa Bay area.

The Bangor Daily News reports that East Millinocket town officials got a $1 million check from Gloria Mackenzie this week.

She's the 84-year-old from Zephyrhills who took home more than $370 million earlier this year after winning a $590 million Powerball jackpot. It was the largest amount that one winner has been awarded in the jackpot's history.

The newspaper reports that Mackenzie's son dropped off a check this week that will go toward renovating much of her hometown's high school.

This is the first of two payments. Mackenzie has promised nearly $2 million to help fix the school.
