Many stores open on Thanksgiving

This year, many retailers will be open on Thanksgiving. This year, many retailers will be open on Thanksgiving.
No doubt, retailers have differing strategies when it comes to whether or not they'll be open on Thanksgiving.

Some major retailers open on Thanksgiving to increase sales and give eager shoppers an opportunity to get a head start on holiday shopping. For other major retailers, giving employees a day off with their families is more important, so they are closed on Thanksgiving.

We've listed some major retailers and whether they will be open or closed on Thanksgiving.

Stores Open on Thanksgiving
(Be sure to check with your local stores, because store hours could vary by location.)

Target-
Most stores open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open until 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29.

Walmart-

Most stores open 24 hours, specials begin at 6 and 8 p.m., so check with your local store ahead of time.

Macy's-
Most stores open at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving and stay open until 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29.

JCPenney-
Most stores open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open until 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29

Sears-
Most stores open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open until 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29

Kmart-
Most stores open at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving and close at 5 p.m. The stores then open again at 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open until 3 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29

Kohl's-
Most stores open at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving and stay open until midnight Friday, Nov. 29.

Best Buy-
Some stores will be open Thanksgiving, double check with your local store. Of those stores that are open, most will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open until 10 p.m. Friday Nov. 29

Stores Closed on Thanksgiving, but open on Black Friday
(Be sure to check with your local stores, because store hours could vary by location.)

Dillard's-
Opens a 8 a.m. on Black Friday, closes at 9 p.m.

Nordstrom-
Opens a 8 a.m. on Black Friday, closes at 10 p.m.

Nordstrom Rack-
Opens a 8 a.m. on Black Friday, closes at 9 p.m.

Costco-
Opens a 9:30 a.m. on Black Friday, closes at 8:30 p.m.

Sam's Club-
Opens a 7 a.m. on Black Friday, closes at 9 p.m.

BJ's Wholesale Club-
Opens a 7 a.m. on Black Friday, closes at 9 p.m.
