Coats man sets mobile home on fire, assaults three people

COATS, N.C. -
A Coats man is facing arson and assault charges after lighting his family's mobile home on fire and assaulting three people on Friday.
 
The incident occurred Friday evening just after 7 p.m. at 19 Keyman Drive in Coats. An officer with the Coats Police Department was the first to arrive on scene. When the officer arrived, the mobile home was on fire and all family members, including children were outside.
 
Three people including a family member, neighbor and the girlfriend of the suspect were assaulted by 18-year-old Christopher Valdez.
 
Two of the victims were transported to Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital for their injuries. Their condition is unknown.
 
Valdez was charged with first-degree arson and two counts of assault inflicting serious injury. His bond was set a $500,000.
