Shooting in Lake Wales injures 11-year-old boy

LAKE WALES, FL (WFLA) -

Investigators with the Lake Wales Police Department are gathering information in an early morning shooting that left an 11-year-old boy injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday at an apartment on West Seminole Ave.

According to a Lake Wales Police Department report officers were dispatched to the residence in response to a shots fired call. When they arrived they discovered that the child was sitting in the kitchen with his 17-year-old male cousin when a bullet came through the window and struck his arm.

The report states the bullet was one of several fired into the building by an unknown assailant. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

His cousin was not injured during the attack. Police found several rounds had been fired into the apartment.
