LARGO, FL (WFLA) - Largo Police say they've caught a man and woman suspected of stealing a $1,899 purebred chihuahua from the Largo Petland.

A Petland spokesperson says a male distracted the store clerk while a woman took the puppy. A surveillance camera recorded images of the thieves at the store Wednesday when the puppy was stolen. Petland then released the photos to the media.

Largo Police say they arrested the male suspect Friday. Christopher Daniel Morris, 39, of  Pinellas Park is charged with one count of felony grand theft.

After Morris was arrested, his family members found the puppy hidden under a blanket in a bedroom of the family home.  The puppy, which weighs less than two pounds, was found in poor health and suffering from apparent dehydration and malnutrition, according to Largo Police.  The puppy was returned to Petland. More charges could be filed.

The female suspect was also arrested. Katelynne Rusk, 24, of Treasure Island is charged with one count of felony grand theft.

Petland had offered a $250 reward for the return of the puppy and the arrest of the thieves.
