100 acres near Blue Ridge Parkway preserved

RALEIGH, N.C. -

More than 100 acres of land in Jackson County along the Blue Ridge Parkway have been purchased for preservation.

The Conservation Trust for North Carolina has bought 104 acres, adding to a 16-acre purchase last month.

The trust says Fred and Alice Stanback of Salisbury contributed money for the purchase. The land can be seen from the parkway's Cranberry Ridge overlook.

The Trust said over the next three years, it will transfer both tracts to the National Park Service to be included within the parkway's boundaries.

The trust has protected 49 properties on the road, totaling nearly 31,000 acres.
