ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. -

A Halifax County man is under arrest after authorities said he shot a woman in the head while she was trying to leave a residence with her child in her car.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a call on Sedum Lane outside Roanoke Rapids Wednesday night regarding a shooting.

An investigation revealed Joshua Tristan Arrington, 30, shot the woman in the head as she was leaving the residence in a car following an argument. The victim had her 7-year-old child in the vehicle.

Authorities said the child was not hurt in the incident.

The victim called 911 after being shot, authorities said.

Arrington was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property, and injury to personal property, authorities said. He is in the Halifax County Detention Center with no bond. 

Arrington has a court date set for Dec. 4.
