Pasco man charged in overdose death of teen girl

Posted: Updated:
A Hudson man has been arrested in connection with the overdose death of a 15-year-old girl.

Ken Humphrey is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.  The victim, Kaleigh Tzobanakis, died on June 1st from a drug overdose.

"She made a bad choice. She was hanging around with a friend, and that friend's father is everybody's worst nightmare," said Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco.

Detectives say Kaleigh was picked up from her home by Ken Humphrey, and taken to his house to visit his teenage daughter and a couple of other friends.  Kaleigh's mother was unaware her daughter was gone.

During the night, investigators say the teens took Coricidin tablets, known as "Triple C", and Humphrey provided them with methadone.  At 2:30 in the morning, Humphrey went to Walmart and purchased two additional boxes of Coricidin for the teens.

At 6:30 on the morning of May 31st, someone called 911 because Kaleigh was unresponsive.  She was taken off life support and died on June 1st.

"You don't just have to point a gun at somebody and killing them to be charged with manslaughter. Giving somebody drugs, especially if they're under age, if they're a teenager, you're just as guilty," said Sheriff Nocco.

Pasco County Detective Chet Cougill offered some advice.

"I just hope that other parents can at least go out and look for this stuff in their kid's bedroom, look in garbage cans, look everywhere you think it's gonna be, 'cause I'm pretty sure it's spreading," he said.
