Woman killed was drug case informant, says attorney

Posted: Updated:

A woman killed in her front yard near Fayetteville may have been targeted because of her involvement in a federal drug case, according to her attorney.

Mark Jesse said Tuesday that prior to the murder of Felicia Williams Diggs, she had complained about feeling threatened because of the case.

Diggs was shot and killed in her front yard at Taylor's Creek mobile home park on November 5. Neighbors say she was trying to get in a car and get away from a man with a gun.

Jesse said he was assigned to represent Diggs as she faced cocaine trafficking charges. He says she knew details about the trafficking between Arizona and Arkansas. She provided information about the case, and he feels she was killed because of that.

Jesse said the mother of three moved from Arizona to North Carolina because she was feeling threatened. He said even on the day she was killed she reported threats to him and a federal courts officer.

Cumberland County detectives would not comment on that drug case.

However, on Tuesday homicide detectives set up a mobile command post at the Pearce's Mill Fire Station in an effort to get tips in the murder. Detectives also canvassed nearby neighborhoods, going door to door with a flier requesting information in the case.

"We're trying to see if anybody saw anything, they could come forward and give us the information so we could go ahead and continue working the investigation," said Lt. Bobby Reyes. "They feel more comfortable coming over here. It's been very useful in several homicides, putting the command post out in the community."
