Downtown Tampa ice skating rink opens Thursday

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Tampa's annual downtown ice skating rink is scheduled to open on Thursday.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn will attend the official opening of Tampa's Downtown on Ice at Curtis Hixon Park on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.  Downtown on Ice is presented by the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Mayor Buckhorn will join members of the team for the first official skate. 

Opening ceremony festivities include free skating for everyone until 7:30 p.m., and a chance to win a Chick-fil-A prize pack.  There will also be a fun dance number featuring Thunder Bug, the Chick-fil-A Cows, Raymond, T-Rec and other mascots.

The rink will be open daily, except on Thanksgiving, until January 5, 2014.  It costs $10 for a 90-minute skate.  That price includes skate rental.

Rink hours of operations:
Monday -Thursday: 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Sunday:  Noon  - 9 p.m.

Tampa’s Downtown on Ice is produced by the City of Tampa and the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc. Proceeds from the rink go toward the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc.’s Summer Scholarship Fund for at Risk Children.
