KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -

An accident on the job claimed the life of an employee at Free Service Tire in Kingsport.

The accident happened Monday afternoon at the commercial truck facility on Eastern Star Road. A representative with Free Service told News Channel 11 two trucks were being worked on inside the service bay when one of the trucks was started while it was still in gear. As a result the truck lurched forward - crushing the employee.

The man sustained a serious head injury and was flown to Holston Valley Hospital where he later died.

“”I join every employee of the Free Service Tire Company in expressing our heartfelt sympathy to the family of one of our fellow employees,” explained Lewis Wexler, Jr., President of Free Service Tire & Auto Centers. “Our company has initiated a review of the matter to identify the root cause of the accident. We will take any necessary actions to assure that a similar event will not occur.”
