LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

The city of Lakeland is breaking ground Monday on a brand new fire station. Fire Station 7 is set to be completed by November of 2014.

Once the facility is finished, it will be home to nine personnel. The firefighters will have rotating 24-hour shifts.

Equipment at the new firehouse includes a heavy rescue vehicle, two airport rescue and firefighting vehicles as well as the newly purchased Fire Engine 71.

Fire Station 7 will provide much needed service to Southwest Lakeland, according to Lakeland Fire Chief Gary Ballard.

“Our design team has developed a station that will meet the safety needs of the airport, the needs of our residents and the commercial development around the airport,” Ballard said.

The construction of Fire Station 7 is estimated at $3.5 million according to city officials. It will be nearly 16,000 square feet and located at 3150 Drane Field Road.
