St. Pete Police: girl on scooter rode into path of truck

Posted: Updated:
ST PETERSBURG, FL -

St. Petersburg Police say a 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after she rode her scooter into the path of a truck.

Investigators say on Friday around 6:08 p.m., Sonia Savage and another child were riding scooters on 58th Avenue Northeast, just east of 1st Street North.

Officers say Savage went to cross the street on her scooter, but only looked one way, and rode her scooter into the side of a passing 2002 Ford F-150.  She was run over by the rear wheel.

Savage was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, then transferred to All Children's Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor, and no charges are pending against the truck driver.
