TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Actor Dwayne Johnson, also known as "The Rock", will star in a new movie about former USF football player Nick Schuyler, who was the lone survivor of a 2009 fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico that took the lives of three of his friends.

The movie will be an adaptation of  Schuyler's best-selling memoir "Not Without Hope", which chronicled the ordeal, according to Variety. Johnson will play Nick Schuyler in the movie.

Schuyler had gone fishing on Feb. 28 with former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Victor "Marquis" Cooper, Corey Smith, and Will Bleakley, another former University of South Florida football player. Their boat capsized when they were trying to free an anchor that was caught on something.

The four men struggled to stay on the overturned boat overnight. Schuyler's three friends eventually died from hypothermia. The U.S. Coast Guard found Schuyler sitting on the hull of the boat 42 hours after the boat capsized. He was about 50 miles off the shore of Clearwater.

A release date for the movie has not been set. A company called Relativity acquired the rights to finance, produce and distribute the film.
