Manatee man busted for child porn after pics found on old cell phone

Posted: Updated:
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Bradenton police say a homeless man obtained a lost cell phone and found child porn on it.

Authorities discovered the victim was a five year old girl and without this homeless man's help, the abuse could've continued.

Bradenton police say on Oct. 16th, a homeless man had an old cell phone delivered to police department with some disturbing contents on it.

Apparently a friend of his spotted the lost phone in a home he had just moved into.

Bradenton police Lt. John Affolter said, "The cell phone was found in the couch. The battery was dead. The person who found it gave it to a homeless person who thought that they had a charger to charge the cell phone."

When he turned the phone on, he was shocked at what he found- pictures and videos of child porn!

"These were graphic child pornography pictures," said Affolter.

Officials say the images were from 2012, and the victim was five years old at the time.

It took some legwork, but detectives were later able to track down the phone's owner- 24-year-old Nathaniel Holland.

Officials say he knows the victim.

He was arrested in Sarasota on October 18th and admitted to what he had done.

Lt. Affolter said, "He confessed to three counts of child molestation and also he confessed to taking the photographs."

He was arrested and faces 18 charges, including possession of child porn.

Officials are happy the homeless man did the right thing and turned in the phone.

"Help from the public in this particular case was crucial. This young girl would be a victim today had this not been turned in," said Affolter.

Holland is now being held at the Manatee County jail without bond.

Police later arrested Holland's wife Amanda in connection with these crimes.

Officials say the girl is now in protective custody.

The case is still active. Investigators are looking to see if there could be other victims.

Without this homeless man's help, the police would've never known about these crimes.

So it serves as a lesson, if you ever spot child porn, do the right thing, protect the children and report it to authorities.
