HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - A man whose truck plunged into the Alafia river Tuesday morning is in good condition after rescue crews performed a complicated maneuver to free him.

Multiple calls came into the 911 around 10 a.m. reporting that a dump truck had lost control and went into the water off U.S, Highway 41 just south of Riverview Drive, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR).

When rescue crews arrived, the water was up to the man's neck. HCFR crews had to rescue the man from the truck while also keeping his head above water. It took 20 minutes to free him.

The truck driver was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated. His name has not been released.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue's Marine Unit and Heavy Rescue Unit responded to the accident.
