NC's revamped clean water fund trustees gather

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

A North Carolina effort that's spent about $1 billion to clean up state waterways since hog waste spills dominated the news is reorganizing.

The trustees of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund meet in Raleigh on Tuesday for the first time since legislators and Gov. Pat McCrory made it part of the state environmental agency. The trust fund's board was sacked and replaced by others picked by the state's top three Republican leaders.

Much of Tuesday's meeting will be used to introduce new board members to their roles and responsibilities.

The trust fund was established 1996 to help finance projects to restore polluted waterways or protect clean ones.
