BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) -

An argument over a woman landed one man in the hospital and the other behind bars Saturday afternoon in Bradenton.

Reliford Cooper was booked into the Manatee County Jail on aggravated assault and battery charges. The 24-year-old Palmetto resident was released after posting bond.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report Tony Webb and the suspect were at the K&S Discount Beverage location at 727 US 301 Blvd. East at approximately 3:30 p.m. when the disagreement occurred.

Investigators say a woman was at the center of the dispute between the two men. Cooper, a convicted felon who was released from state prison in May, struck Webb in the head several times with a closed fist.

The victim suffered several significant injuries including a fractured forehead, eye socket and broken nose. Webb fled when Cooper threatened to hit him with a pipe according to the report.

The victim drove to Lakewood Ranch Regional Medical Center for treatment. He also called law enforcement to report the incident.

Cooper was located and arrested without incident. Before being transported to the jail he was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital after complaining that he had hurt his hand during the incident.
