BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) -

Investigators with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office are on the lookout for an armed robbery suspect who injured a convenience store clerk Saturday night.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. at the Sunoco Gas Station in the 600 block of Manatee Ave. West.

According to a MCSO report the suspect walked into the store while the clerk was in the cooler. He called the employee over and directed him to the cash register.

As the clerk was walking the suspect struck him in the head with a handgun, knocking him to the floor. He then forced him to open the cash register, grabbed all the money and fled.

Deputies went over surveillance video at the store and noticed the blow to the head really shook up the clerk who was visibly shaking when he opened the register.

The suspect, described as a black male with a large build, was last seen running west away from the store. In addition to the money he also took the clerk’s cell phone.

The suspect weighs approximately 180 pounds and was wearing dark clothing during the commission of the crime.
