TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A husband and wife from Tampa are facing a slew of federal charges stemming from a string of bank robberies in Florida and Alabama.

Cara Lee Williams, 28, was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on Saturday. Immanuel Lee Williams, 28, was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on Friday. Both suspects are now in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to a United States Attorney General’s Office report at least 10 law enforcement agencies have been working together for several months to bring the couple to justice.

Investigators say the couple is suspected in more than a dozen bank robberies. Their arrest reports show a home address on McKinley Dr. in Tampa.

Officials with the FBI believe the suspects took turns committing the crimes and made off with approximately $54,000 from hold-ups in Orange, Polk, Marion and Sumter counties.

The pair work disguises during the commission of the crimes which made them more difficult to identify. A break in the case came when a toll plaza camera captured an image of the license plate of the getaway vehicle.

Authorities also linked the Williams to the robberies through cell-phone records.

Five of the robbery targets were Chase Bank locations, Cara Williams’ former employer. She was let go earlier this year according to the report.

The FBI says the couple robbed the Chase Bank locations in Lakeland and Orange County in January; the Mid Florida Credit Union in Davenport in August; Bank of America in Davenport in August; Compass Bank in Ocala in October; and Center State Bank in Bushnell in October.

Other holdups the couple is suspected in occurred in Tampa, Seffner, Plant City and Fort Myers.

The Williams are facing federal charges of conspiracy to obstruct, delay or affect commerce by robbery and conspiracy to commit bank robbery. The couple is facing a maximum of 20 years behind bars if convicted.
