The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed running back Doug Martin on injured reserve on Friday, ending the Pro Bowl back's season.

Martin injured his shoulder in a game against the Falcons in Atlanta on October 20.  According to the Bucs website, Martin will have surgery and begin his rehab process before the start of the 2014 offseason.

Martin made the Pro Bowl after his rookie season in 2012 when he gained 1,926 yards from scrimmage.

This year Martin played in six games and rushed for 456 yards and scored a touchdown. He also caught 12 passes for 66 yards.

The Bucs say they filled the roster spot vacated by Martin by promoting rookie linebacker Ka'Lail Glaud from the practice squad.

Rookie Mike James will continue as the starter in place of the injured Martin. James had a breakout game on Sunday when he rushed for a career high 158 yards.
