Fire shuts down Howard Ave in Tampa

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters from Tampa Fire Rescue battled a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex on the 1300 block of South Howard Ave on Friday night.

Around 6:15 p.m., fire crews responded to the SOHO Condominiums at 1301 S. Howard Avenue, and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the window of an upstairs unit.  The fire was contained to a single unit, and firefighters put it out within 20 minutes.  Officials say that unit is now uninhabitable.

No residents of the unit were home at the time of the fire, and no one was hurt.

Authorities shut down South Howard Ave near Bern's Steakhouse as they battled the fire, but re-opened it in less than an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
