It was a life-changing day for 16 Pasco County children as they began a new chapter in their lives.

Pasco County Courthouse hosted the 5th Annual Adoption Day Celebration, marking the transition from foster to care to caring and loving “forever families.”

According to the Florida Department of Children and Families, there are more than 7,600 children in foster care in the state.

Pasco County judges finalized the adoptions of 16 children, four of them to the Lesley and Danny McGuill alone.

"Today is just an affirmation of what we already know and how we already felt about the kids," new father Danny McGuill said.

He and his wife adopted Justice, 14, Jeremy, 13, Randall, 11 and Max, 8, all of whom are siblings.

"It feels like we finally belong," Justice, the eldest of the siblings, said.

The children were separated when placed in foster care over the past few years.

"We were split up before, so it's just like I was missing a piece of happiness," Justice said.

While some parents adopt children as infants, the McGuill's say they had no problem adopting all four siblings.

"There's no diapers to change, there's no formulas, there's no waking up in the middle of the night," Lesley said with a grin.

"If anything they let us into their family, as opposed to us letting them into ours," Danny said.

For the children it's a family to go home to, "knowing that they're going to be there for the rest of your life," Justice said.
