TARPON SPRINGS, FL (WFLA) -

A joint operation involving six Bay area law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrests of five people Wednesday night on a variety of drug related charges.

The suspects were taken into custody at 514 South Grosse Ave. in Tarpon Springs.

According to a Tarpon Springs Police Department report complaints from members of the community initiated an investigation into activity at the residence. Investigators say individuals in the home were openly selling narcotics within 1,000 feet of a church and right next to a community center playground.

Just after 10 p.m. Wednesday officials with the Tarpon Springs Police Department, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the Clearwater Police Department, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Bureau of Tobacco & Firearms executed a search warrant on the home.

Approximately 100 grams of marijuana and one gram of crack cocaine was confiscated.

At least two of the suspects have prior drug-related arrests in the Bay area.

Brian Leonard Current, a 25-year-old Tarpon Springs resident, is facing one count of sale and possession of cocaine and one count of probation violation. He was arrested in Hillsborough County on marijuana possession charges in 2009.

Readers Current, a 23-year-old Tarpon Springs resident, is facing four counts of sale and possession of cocaine. Current has served time in state prison for a 2010 cocaine possession/delivery conviction out of Pinellas County.

The others facing charges include:

- Janella L. Jones, 36, is facing resisting arrest and obstruction charges.

- Durel Mathis, 27, is facing one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of cocaine.

- Damon Mathis, 29, is facing one count of marijuana possession, one count of cocaine possession and one count of resisting arrest.

Investigators say many suspects are committing the same type of crimes across jurisdictional boundaries. Local law enforcement agencies in the Bay area will continue to share intelligence, pool resources and form partnerships as necessary in order to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for our communities.
