ST PETERSBURG, FL - Voters in St. Petersburg will choose a new mayor at the polls today. Democrat Rick Kriseman is challenging incumbent Republican Bill Foster.

Both candidates voted early Tuesday.  Mayor Foster, accompanied by his wife Wendy, cast his ballot at Northeast Presbyterian Church, on Shore Acres Boulevard. Kriseman and his family went to vote at Pilgrim Congregational Church on Central Avenue.
"I'm grateful it's the end. It's been a long race. I know my wife is happy that this is it," said Foster.

Foster spent  the day visiting various polling locations to thank volunteers and voters.  During the lunch hour at Kissin' Cousins Restaurant, 951 34th St. N. , he shoot hands with supporters, and stopped to sign a birthday card for a campaign volunteer.

He believes voter turn-out will have a big impact on the race.

"I think that's going to be a difference maker. I think it's going to be close, " said Foster.

Kriseman toured three different local eateries to speak to voters throughout the morning. In the afternoon he will met with his volunteers at all three of his campaign phone banks. One of those banks is at Pam Smith's home. She's a big believer in Kriseman and has had volunteers making calls on his behalf every Thursday night for 6 months.

"I have met so many nice people on the campaign trail that opened their hearts and their doors," said Kriseman.

There are at least three issues the voters are worried about this election: the Pier, the crime rate and flood insurance.

The polling place open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. To learn more about where to go to vote, you can click here.
