CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

A Clearwater restaurant was damaged by fire Monday night and now investigators are trying to determine its cause.

The blaze broke just after 10 p.m. at the Bait House on Causeway Blvd.

According to a Clearwater Fire & Rescue report firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after a fisherman noticed smoke coming from the building. By the time crews arrived heavy smoke and flames were emitting from the structure.

The report states gusty winds played havoc with the initial effort and started to push the fire in the direction of the adjacent StarLite Majesty dining yacht.

The crews were able to contain the fire to the eatery, sparing the 115-foot yacht. Nearly three dozen firefighters took part in the effort. A preliminary investigation indicates the fire started in the kitchen but an official cause is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported and the official amount of damage is not yet known.
