Former Cerro Executive Named President
NEW HAVEN, Ind., Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SDI LaFarga LLC today announced that Kurt Breischaft has been named president of SDI LaFarga, a copper rod mill located in New Haven, Indiana. The company is a joint venture between Steel Dynamics, Inc., ranked by FORTUNE magazine as the 323rd largest public company in the United States and the La Farga Group, headquartered in Spain. Since 1808, La Farga has been providing copper solutions throughout the world from 25 plants in 14 countries.
Formerly vice president and general manager of Cerro Plumbing Products, part of the Marmon Group/Berkshire Hathaway Company, Kurt brings more than 20 years of experience in the copper industry to this newly created position. A graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University, Breischaft's well-rounded career includes positions as a process engineer, engineering manager, plant manager, and manufacturing manager at the Essex Group, Inc./Superior Essex. His professional path continued at Belden, Inc., where he served as senior project manager – Belden Americas Group, Nogales, Mexico, as well as plant manager for Belden Americas and Belden/Thermax.
In July of 2010, he was named director of manufacturing for CerroWire in Crothersville, IN. That was followed by an assignment as vice president, business development for Marmon, where he was responsible for marketing and new product development for the copper tube product line, and subsequently appointed vice president/general manager – Cerro Plumbing.
SDI LaFarga is supported by a workforce of nearly 40 employees utilizing a patented advance refining process melting environmentally friendly material, cast and rolled, resulting in high purity 8 mm copper rod. The plant's design capacity is 180,000,000 lbs. per year, and was built with an investment of over $40M in 2012.
Kurt is a past board member of the Wire Association International, and a 2006 Wire Link Scholar. He and his wife, Rhonda, are the parents of three children, Reese (15), Collin (13), and Keeley (11).
