Quality Denture Care up for sale, owner now out-of-state

Posted: Updated:

Customers are left wondering what to do, after a Tri-Cities business owner packed up and left town.

We first told you about Dr. Hardev Arun Patel last month. Several customers say employees closed the doors, but never opened back up. The problem? Several customers say they are out hundreds even thousands of dollars.

28 complaints are now sitting on Detective Brian Hess's desk at the Bristol, Tennessee Police Department. They're all concerning Dr. Hardev Arun Patel and his business, Quality Denture Care.

"I would say this is not all of them, yeah, I've just got 28 people so far, I don't know who else may be calling in. Everytime there is a new case we have more people to talk to," said Hess.

Police said the complaints are pretty much all the same. The customer said that Patel and his staff did not complete the services they paid for.

Documents show Patel has owned Quality Denture Care since the mid 90's and according to the Better Business Bureau he left May 9, 2013, due to a family illness, but never came back. Now, customers have another sign that Patel will not be reopening, a 'for sale' sign.

Investigators have spoken to Patel's attorney who said paying customers back is very promising.

"That they're going to pay these people back or refer them to another dentist and have what he was supposed to do taken care of by another dentist," said Hess.

Until that happens customers are out hundreds some even thousands of dollars.

Hess told News Channel 11, "so far I've not been able to determine anything criminal has happened. Obviously we are dealing with money, so which makes it civil."

To figure it out Hess needs to talk with Patel. "I need to make contact and speak with Mr. Patel," but there's one problem.. "(Patel's attorney) confirmed that Mr. Patel had left the state of Tennessee."

Detectives are working closely with Patel's attorney, "so we can figure out what caused this and what his plan of action is to remedy this situation," said Hess.

News Channel 11 spoke with the real estate company and they made it very clear over the phone they have nothing to do with the business, they just said one of their customers is selling the property and the building.

We tried contacting Patel's attorney, but he has yet to return our call.
