Tampa dentist buys candy for troops

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Usually you don't want to be caught with candy around your dentist. Dr. Randall Diez is actually rewarding his patients for having candy in his office. It's part of the candy buyback. For every one pound of candy you bring in, Dr. Diez will give you a dollar, and ship the sweet treats off to the troops.

"We're promoting good health and teaching kids to eat that Halloween candy in moderation," Dr. Diez said. "Plus we're helping the troops."

Anne Abell isn't a patient at the office on Gunn Highway but brought in her candy anyway. She declined the cash reward.

"I just don't want the candy in my house anymore," Abell said. "My brother-in-law was in the service and they need our help and support."
