GULFPORT, FL (WFLA) -

A 24-year-old Pinellas County man was arrested late Friday on charges stemming from a robbery involving an elderly Gulfport man.

Nathan Scott Rewerts was booked into the Pasco County Jail early Saturday morning. He is awaiting extradition back to Pinellas County to face charges.

According to a Gulfport Police Department report officers were dispatched to a residence in the 6000 block of Gulfport Blvd just after 10 p.m. When they arrived the officers were met by the victim who had been bound with duct tape before he was robbed.

Police say the victim – who knew the suspect - was followed into his home by Rewerts. The suspect fled with the man’s wallet and car keys.

Rewerts drove away in the victim’s 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. Fortunately the stolen vehicle was equipped with a location device and was quickly spotted by troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol.

The suspect was apprehended near the Flying J Truck Stop on Interstate 275 near State Road 52 in Pasco County. Troopers booked Rewerts on grand theft auto and obstruction charges. The victim was not injured.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
