1 dead following Fayetteville shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Fayetteville police confirmed a male victim died after being shot at the Lake in the Pines apartment complex.

Police said the shooting occurred around 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the apartment complex off Rosehill Road in northern Fayetteville.

According to police, the 19-year-old Dontez Lamar Woods was waiting for a ride when he was confronted by two people in a white vehicle. One of the subjects in the white vehicle pulled out a handgun during the confrontation and shot Woods.

He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police chief Harold Medlock said police believe Woods knew the assailants.

Medlock described the car that was involved as a 2013 or similar white Chrysler 300 sedan. He said it has chrome rims and possible a lighting effects underneath.
