Kiwanis Club of Tampa prepares about 13K chicken dinners

Posted: Updated:
ST PETERSBURG, FL - The Kiwanis Club of Tampa will be hard at work this Halloween, making more than 13,000 chicken dinners. It's part of the club's annual Chicken Barbeque Fundraiser.

The event started back in 1968 with one grill, now it's a major undertaking at Raymond James Stadium.

"We started at 2 this morning. We've been doing this for years," said Jim Orchard with the club. "We raise money for a bunch of different organizations, kids, the elderly, anyone who needs it. It's our biggest project."

The BBQ raises money for different Kiwanis programs benefiting children, elderly, and people in need. Families can order the meals ahead of time for $9. Each box comes with half a barbeque chicken, potato chips, a dinner roll, and a cookie.

Pick up is at the stadium from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or at the One Mack Cali Center downtown Tampa from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
