TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A Tampa man has been released without charges after police questioned him in connection with a deadly shooting behind a Tampa Whole Foods store.

Just before 10:30 am, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received at least one 911 call about a fight between two men behind the Whole Foods Market on N. Dale Mabry Highway in N. Tampa.

Deputies arrived to find Deshaun Gregory lying in the parking lot next to a white SUV belonging to David Saunders.  Saunders is a former Tampa Bay Storm arena football player.

Deputies say Gregory drove to the scene with his girlfriend this morning and parked near Whole Foods.  He was angry over an issue he had with Saunders, who was apparently his girlfriend's personal fitness instructor.

Saunders was sitting in his SUV in the parking lot.  Investigators say Gregory and his girlfriend walked up to Saunder's SUV and Gregory confronted him.  Deputies say Gregory pulled an 8-inch knife and threatened Saunders.  During the struggle that followed, a shot was fired from a gun in Saunders' possession.

Saunders was released without charges pending the outcome of the investigation and a State Attorney's Office ruling.  The Hillsborough County SAO who will review and evaluate the totality of circumstances and make a final ruling on this case.

Detectives will continue to look at the background of all three individuals to determine what the relationships were and what may have motivated this incident.
