Tampa's Historic Yuengling Brewery engulfed in flames

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Tampa Fire Marshal investigators have ruled the fire accidental in nature but are still trying to pinpoint the origin and exact cause of the fire.. They estimate the damage at a million dollars mostly to the building. A firefighter who received minor injuries has been released from the hospital. All operations at the brewery have been shut down for the time being.

Tampa Fire rescue was dispatched to a structure fire at 11111 N. 30th Street on Saturday night.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the Yuengling Brewing Company’s storage facility.

Crews were directed by two on site facility personnel to the building of origin.

Tampa firefighters made entry into the building. They had to climb five stories to reach the flames. Firefighters experienced dense smoke and high heat conditions.

First arriving crews immediately dispatched a 2nd alarm, bringing upwards of 60 firefighters to the scene.

Fire crews attempting to fight the fire from inside the building were evacuated and multiple aerial ladder trucks began a defensive operation to battle the flames.

Tampa Fire crews deemed the fire under control approximately an hour after it started.

Crews are now attempting to reach hot spots and embers that may be located around the third story of the building between the exterior and interior wall.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined. Multiple investigators from the Tampa Fire Marshall’s office were on scene throughout the night to determine the cause of the blaze.

The amount of damage to the building and its contents is unknown at this time.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue also assisted with man power later into the incident.

No facility workers were injured. However, one Tampa firefighter did sustain a minor injury and was transported from the scene via ambulance.
