A 23-year-old Englewood woman is facing a variety of charges following an altercation with a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office deputy early Saturday morning.
Kimberly Tomchinsky is facing one count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of fleeing to elude and one count of obstruction.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report Deputy Karen Boone responded to an alarm at the Bent Tree Golf Club in the 4700 block of Bent Tree Blvd. just after 5 a.m. Upon arrival the deputy observed a vehicle in the parking lot that was occupied by one person – later identified as Tomchinsky.
The deputy attempted to communicate with the occupant but the person failed to comply with her commands. The vehicle came towards the deputy who fired one round from her handgun. The driver was not fazed and fled the scene.
The vehicle was located a short time later by several other SCSO units dispatched to the golf course and again, the driver attempted to flee. Eventually Tomchinsky was stopped, arrested and taken into custody.
Nobody was injured in the incident. Deputy Boone has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting – which is standard procedure when a deputy fires their weapon.
Tomchinsky is being held without bond at the Sarasota County Jail.
