CARTER COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -
Efforts to fight off dropping temperatures may have played a role in a  fire that heavily damaged a Carter County home on Thursday.
Sheriff Chris Mathes said the call for help came around 2:30 p.m. about a burning home on Clyde White Road off Highway 91 in Stoney Creek.
The residents of the home were away at the time of the fire.
Mathes told News Channel 11 the preliminary investigation showed the fire's cause may be linked to a heater.    "It's common this time of year," Mathes said.
Temperatures will drop near or below freezing Thursday night with the chance for snow flurries in the Tri-Cities.
