JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -
A News Channel 11 Investigation has triggered a call for a federal investigation in to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.   In July, News Channel 11 discovered that dozens of people living in public housing had incomes that exceeded the allowable amount that qualified them for assistance.  In fact, 12 families made more than $50,000 a year, one of which in Bristol, TN has lived in public housing for 17 years. Three of those took in more than $60,000 annually and one made $76,855 a year.
Tennessee Congressman Dr. Phil Roe sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development yesterday.  In the letter he called for David Montoya, the Inspector General, to look into the matter and report back to Congress.  Roe wrote he believed the Congress needed to know the scope of the problem so they could consider any necessary action.
