'Bicycle Man' organization increasing collection efforts

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

The Bicycle Man Organization in Fayetteville is expanding its collection drive efforts.

Moses Mathis, known to many in the Fayetteville community as the "Bicycle Man," passed away earlier this year. He was known for his generosity to children by fixing up old bikes and then giving them away.

Mathis' wife, Ann, said the bike giveway will take place this year, but the organization needs more bikes to give away.

A collection will be held Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walmart at 4545 Fayetteville Road in Raeford.

A second collection will take place Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vector Security at 5605 Chapel Hill Rd. in Raleigh.

About a month ago, they held a bike drive at the Ramsey St. Walmart in Fayetteville, which was a huge success with 140 bikes donated to the BicycleMan organization as well as bike parts.
