42 cats taken from Holly Springs home

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of cats were seized from a Holly Springs home and later put down after being found living in squalor.

The property, which is on North Main Street in Holly Springs, is now condemned after police discovered its deplorable condition and 42 sick and feral cats inside.

Animal Control put down the cats because they were so ill.

Police say charges may come if the district attorney decides the owner committed animal abuse.

Neighbors say there were signs that something was off.

"I figured something was in there dead because why would vultures hang around?" said one woman nearby.

The property is registered to Sherry Underwood.

WNCN has not received comment from Wake Animal Control.
