ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) - Famous soul food from Harlem, New York will soon be available in Midtown St. Petersburg.

Sylvia's Queen of Soul food restaurant is set to open November 8 on 22nd St., South.  "They have a lot of people coming there internationally and we hope to bring that same and get some of the tourism to come here ," said Bettye Newsome, Senior Vice President of Operations, Sylvia's Restaurant.
Tuesday and Wednesday, hundreds lined up to fill out applications for 55 restaurant jobs available. Laura Crawford applied for a hostess position,"This opportunity means a lot to me. First of all, finding a job on your own is hard so I'm very grateful they have this in the inner city to help people looking for jobs."

"As you can see, jobs are coming to the area, but there are still a lot of vacant lots and a lot of stuff that needs to be done for more business growth out here. So it's a good start but I hope it keeps growing," said St. Petersburg City Councilman Wengay Newton. He said the addition of the restaurant is important to the community. "There are no sit down restaurants in the midtown area, " said Newton .
