Hillsborough County Fair opens near Brandon

Posted: Updated:
BRANDON FL (WFLA) - The 20th annual Hillsborough County Fair welcomes first visitors Wednesday at the County Fairgrounds near Brandon. This year many events will take place in a new 20,000 square foot building finished just in time for the fair.

Livestock shows, home arts including canning, sewing, baking and photography are open to all visitors. Children can join special "just for kids" competitions.

The "Recycled Yard Art" will return to the fair this year.

A Ranch Rodeo in the 1800-seat outdoor arena will feature real ranch workers competing in cow milking, bronco riding, branding and trailer-loading. Robinson's Raising Pigs will run and swim to the finish line, and Herriot's Family Fun Circus will entertain the crowds.

A new Historical Area will show a working sawmill cutting lumber. Workers will build a blacksmith shop from the lumber during the fair. You can also watch how charcoal is made or just enjoy the fair rides and some chili during the Rotary's Annual Chili Cook-Off on Sunday.

Come over and experience all the fair has to offer Oct. 16-20 at the County Fairgrounds.
