Moore Co. middle school student brings gun to school

ABERDEEN, N.C. -

A Moore County middle school student has been charged and removed from Southern Middle School after bring a gun on campus last week.

The principal of the school sent a letter home with student on Monday, informing parents about the incident.

"Please know that such actions will not be tolerated at Southern Middle School and that the safety of our students is our foremost priority," said Principal Shelia Gilliard. "Thank you for your support of our school and for helping us ensure a safe and quality learning environment for our students."

The school said the student involved has been removed. The name of the student has not been released at this time.

Moore County Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence said the school system "does not tolerate any behavior that in any way may jeopardize the safety of our students."
