In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a pink fire truck in town, and members of the Professional Fire Fighters of Citrus County made it happen.

Thanks to the Citrus Fire Fighters union (local 4562), the fire truck at Station #3 in Inverness is sporting a hot pink cab in support of breast cancer awareness. The flashy new look is simply a special pink spray paint that will be peeled off the truck at the end of October. The funds used to buy the paint were totally paid for by the union.

Every year, the local 4562 raises money for breast cancer, but this year, the members wanted 100% of the proceeds to benefit people in our community. In order to raise funds, the union purchased bright pink t-shirts to sell for $15 each. On the first day of sales, the t-shirts sold out and more shirts had to be ordered.

“We’re really pleased with how well the shirts have been received,” said Greg Ellis, vice president of local 4562. “We’ve never had a shirt be this popular.”

At the end of the month, the union will provide selected members of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office who have breast cancer with a check to help with their medical bills.

"We want to thank everyone who has shown support for breast cancer awareness,” Ellis concluded. “We’re committed to this cause and really want to make a difference.”
