Hernando Sheriff's website adds accident responses

Posted: Updated:
HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The Hernando County Sheriff's office announced changes to their website today.

In an effort to make commuting throughout Hernando County a safer and more cost effective experience, Sheriff Al Nienhuis said they will be adding
Hernando County Traffic Accidents and Responses to the Sheriff's homepage.

This link will show live data once a call has been dispatched:

-     Accident

-     Accident with Injuries

-     Hit and Run

-     Hit and Run with Injuries

-     Highway Obstruction (lines down, stop sign missing, object in roadway, etc.)

-     If there are no active calls of this nature, the screen will indicate that,

so the viewer does not think that have received an error.

The sheriff says having this data available will allow drivers to quickly check a route before getting in the car, saving time and fuel.  If there is a crash noted, the driver will be able to choose an alternate route.

The sheriff added that at the bottom of their home page, they had also included a link to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) traffic site.  Traffic crashes being handled by FHP can be viewed on that site.
